Conventional Printers

Costs vary by model, but are typically $0.05 per page, or $0.04 per side when printing double-sided.

Compact Desktop Printers

Typically $0.08 per page. Because of high maintenance costs, desktop printers are provided only when absolutely necessary.

Billing Strategy

By charging departments for printer and copier use, the Technology Department maintains a self-sustaining "copier fund" which covers the following expenses:

• Purchase or lease of copiers and printers
• Copier and printer service/maintenance contracts
• Consumables such as toner and staples
• Paper

Secondary goals include reducing waste and decreasing costs by incentivizing double-sided printing and providing direct user feedback about the cost of a print job.
